When Krishna was a child, he would go with his friends to the neighboring houses to steal butter. One day, a gopi tied a bell to the butter pot, so that it would ring when Krishna tried to steal the butter. However, when Krishna saw the bell, he instructed it not to make any sound when he touched it. Despite this, when Krishna put the butter in his mouth, the bell rang loudly. Krishna escaped before the gopi arrived. Later, Krishna asked the bell why it did not obey his command. The bell replied that making a sound during the offering was its duty. Krishna laughed and left.
