Edira Brillwyn has a secret.

Edira Brillwyn is a threadmender. She holds a rare, lifesaving power that can cure disease and heal injuries in the blink of an eye. But magic always comes with a cost and saving anyone sacrifices a sliver of her own life. Edira’s beloved aunt Rowena – a fellow threadmender - taught her to conceal this ability to protect herself from people who would take advantage, especially their powerful and wealthy neighbors.

Orin Fernglove is immortal – an everliving – and head of the prominent Fernglove house. The Ferngloves own the local mines, possess magic powerful enough to alter the stars, and don’t take “no” for an answer. When Edira’s brothers unexpectedly contract blight, an incurable virus killing people throughout the town, Orin offers to help. If Edira returns to Fernglove Manor to assist in researching a cure to the blight, Orin can slow their sickness while she hones her magic.

The remaining Ferngloves are less confident in Edira’s ability and perhaps more dangerous than the ever-present disease. While Edira and Orin race against her brother’s increasingly precarious health, the family’s pristine exterior begins to crack, exposing the true nature of Edira’s presence within the crumbling estate and the power she has to tear it all down.
