According to Plato, Atlantis was a large island, rich in resources, and ruled by a confederation of kings. Over time, however, the Atlanteans grew corrupt and decadent, and as a result, they incurred the wrath of the gods. In a single day and night of catastrophe, Atlantis was submerged by the sea, disappearing without a trace.
